Dingoden Family Outback Yapper

Welcome to our Family blog. It will try to capture the various asundry activities of our mundane lives, but with an attempt at making it seem not quite so mundane.

Breakfast Outside

We often eat breakfast outside. For one thing, it is very hot
these days (with highs around 105 or more), so it's good to
spend time outside while we can. The kids pour their own milk!

Time to Collect Nature Things

After finding bones, bottle caps (and other exciting trash), sticks, and
pretty rocks, Delenn and Logan created a sculpture with their things
(Logan said it was a hypersonic jet when it was finished!).

Delenn's Bear Lapbook

Mom and Delenn have put together an activity
lapbook on bears. Before it gets destroyed, we
wanted to post a few pictures!

When you open the two front flaps this is what you see. Delenn colored in
the sleeping bear. If you pull it down it says that bears hibernate in winter.
The ziplock bag has assorted sizes of bears for the kids to sort through.

The page on hibernating bears flips down to reveal
this page on what bears eat. It's hard to tell from
the picture, but the bear's mouth is cut out and the
bears head lifts up slightly so they can "feed" the
bear its food. Above are some fuzzy bears Delenn
made with the shavings from the pom-pom bear
head.

The last activity page is one on colors--the bears can be slid in and out
of their cave. Delenn colored most of the bears, except for the blue one
which Logan did with great care. He was very careful not to color
outside the lines (and did a great job compared to his normal efforts at coloring).

Thanksgiving Lapbook

Starting in the beginning of November, Logan worked on a Thanksgiving
lapbook. He learned about the Mayflower, Pilgrims and Indians. We
talked about the difficult voyage and hard work the Pilgrims had to do
once they arrived in America. We also talked about what made us
thankful -- and Logan brainstormed the things he was thankful for which
Mommy wrote down on the turkey drumsticks above:

*I'm thankful for all my jets & legos and all my things
*I'm thankful to get food
*I'm thankful we have a lot of lights
*I'm thankful for my friends
*I'm thankful for being very nice to Grams and Gramps and that they gave me toys
*I'm thankful for having a big house
*I'm thankful for having lots of games
*I'm thankful for being strong

Logan wrote out the headlines (Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, Indians) on the lapbook above,
colored and cut out a Pilgrim and Indian, kept track of the days counting down to
Thanksgiving, and decorated the book with stickers and printables.
