were solemnly united by me in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony at the Protestant E. Church of Brooklyn

Samuel Pavitt and Adeline Buck had three children including  Ella Elizabeth Pavitt Dubuque.

Samuel was born in London, England on August 30, 1830.  He was a harness maker by trade. Here is his eulogy:

Samuel N. Pavitt came with his parents to America in 1832 (at not quite 2 yrs.)  and settled in the province of Quebec. In 1846 he moved to New York city and engaged in the harness trade.  In 1851 he was married to Adeline Buck of the city of Brooklyn.  He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1855 and located in the harness trade at Minneapolis being one of the first businessmen of that then infant city.

At the call of his country, he shouldered a musket in 1862 in Co. B, 6th Regiment Minnesota volunteers and after serving three years he was honorably discharged.

Mr. Pavitt was one of the old settlers of the state and knew what pioneer life was.  He had a taste of Indian campaigning during the Sioux war and Indian massacre of 1862.  Mr. Pavitt lived in Minneapolis for many years an honored and respected citizen.  He moved to Clearwater and from thence to Royalton where he has made a host of friends.  He was a defender and champion of right and the uncompromising enemy of wrong.  He despised shams and pretenses.  He made no profession of religion, preferring to live an upright life whose mainspring of action was the golden rule, as an example for his children to follow.  He had a rugged heart of oak and his friends could depend on him.  Eight months ago he suffered a severe attack of grip.  An abscess formed near the base of his brain, broke internally and was discharged by throat.  He suffered tortures uncomplainingly and it was only within a few days that he took his bed.  Though suffereing intense pain he was so appreciative of what was done for him by attendants that it was a pleasure to wait upon him.  The bereaved family have lost a kind husband and loving father and the community a firm friend and honest citizen.  He will be interred today by the Masonic fraternity of which he was an honored member.  He leaves a wife and three children, W.H. Pavitt of Hubbard, Mrs. Isaiah Dubuque of Osseo and Geo. Pavitt of chicago, to mourn his loss.
