Well we've made it over the hurdle into days 2 and 3 of Logan being born.
Pediatrician Report: We had a team of 3 pediatricians come in and check Logan
out from head to toe. His hips were checked first as there is always a chance of hip displacement in breech kids.
On the first day of birth his hips were giving a 'clunk' noise (which is bad), however today they were giving a 'clink' noise
(which is good and evidently considerably different to a 'clunk'.) The Doctors were amazed at such a quick
transition (healing) of going from a clunk to a clink, but they will still have us go in for an ultrasound on his hips in
6-8 weeks to be sure. He had a very slight heart murmur, but this was not unusual and wasn't a concern (an intake murmur).
Logan had great reflexes and was given an excellent bill of health.
Mom's Status: Liesl was doing FANTASTIC the second and third days. She had a 10 minute
cold shiver attack on the second night, but other than that she's really only needed Panadol (ibuprofen pain relief tablets).
Now at the end of her 3rd day she's getting more and more sore but is feeling so much better (no morphine headaches).
She has been absolutely radiant and beaming all the time with constant infectious smiles! Mom and Logan will probably
stay in the hospital the full 4-5 days until they remove Liesl's stitches. This includes the additional set she
garnered when they removed the large scar that has plagued Liesl for the past couple of years (from the botched laparoscopy
turned laparotomy episode).
Baby Status: Logan has been sleeping and feeding quite well and just last night
went into his first cluster feed. He is generally quiet except when there is the obvious problem of needing food or having
a dirty diaper. Logan 'seems' to be a content little runt (just hope this isn't the calm before the storm!)
Doctor's Note: The Doctor (Dr. Grice) who delivered the baby popped
in and said he always almost forgets about us because the nurses and mid-wives keep reporting how excellent Mom & Baby
are doing. He probably says this to just about everyone, but we do feel fortunate as we keep seeing numerous babies
in neo-natal units and sick looking Moms all around. Next door to us are about 4 Mom's that have been staying around
for 2-3 months waiting for their babes to get better. In truth, I do believe we are doing quite well in that Babe and
Mom never need any help or assistance.
Blood Type: O+ (like his Pappy)
