While we had excellent support and care at the hospital, we're definitely elated to be home (after 5
days) so we can officially start life as a new family!
Pediatrician Report: All is well and the pediatrician gave the official okay
to let us go home. The heart murmur could no longer be heard, but just in case we will be going back on August 27 for
a follow up visit.
Orthopedic Report: On 19 August Logan had his first post-birth ultrasound to
check out his hips. The images showed that the balls of his legs were in their hip sockets (a good thing) but for some
reason his legs are still generally pointed up at about a 57 degree angle. When straightening the legs, it forces poor
Logan's back to arch inward (not a good thing). There will be a specialist (orthopedic pediatrician) in town on Sept 10 so
we'll see what he/she has to say then. Most of the mid-wives think (and I tend to agree and hope they're right)
that this is very normal in breech babies and their ligaments just need some time to stretch out. My personal observation
of Logan leads me to believe they are slowly getting straighter every day.
Mom's Status: Liesl is a bit sore and was scolded by a mid-wife for not taking more
of her panadol pain relief tablets. Her scars are healing up nicely, but she seems to be a bit allergic to the tape
bandages and has gotten a couple of puss boils around them. She has indicated that she's feeling a bit better every
day and she's anxious to get in some longer walks outdoors (probably today).
Baby Status: Logan is continuing to sleep and feed as most babies tend to do.
However, he does seem to have a strong need sometimes to sleep with Momma. If he happens to notice she ain't there than Logan
unleashes the forces of fire and brimstone to all those in his wake (which is usually just Dadda). When he's awake
he seems quite alert and he keeps an active look around, however, usually he's looking for one thing... food!
Weight: On August 20 he weighed 3.060 kg (approx. 6.1 pounds) as babies tend
to go down in weight at first. This morning, August 22, he weighed 3.15 kg (approx. 7 pounds) which is just above what
he weighed at birth. This is great since they are supposed to be back at birthweight one week later!
